My passion for design comes from a desire to work with people to create the spaces they dream of inhabiting
The aim of every ĀKAU project is to create positive change in our communities. Projects designed in collaboration with local young people include community buildings, marae, affordable housing & placemaking initiatives such as the Kaikohe flag project & basketball court.
In September 2019, ĀKAU was part of Making Ways, an exhibition examining alternative architecture practice in Aotearoa, curated by Dr Kathy Waghorn at Objectspace. A review featured in Architecture NZ in January 2020.
Recently ĀKAU was awarded the NZIA John Sutherland Practice award, won the Community Impact Award in the 2023 Interior Awards for Te Puna Reo o Manga Tangaroa & was named as a finalist in the A+W Munro Diversity Award in 2020 & 2023.
